Legal Consulting/Testimony

Professor Sommers has consulted with numerous attorneys and served as an expert witness in several cases.  He has an approved vendor ID# from the Massachusetts Committee for Public Counsel Services.  Generally speaking, his expertise lies in social perception and cognition in the legal domain.  More specifically, he is an expert in the following areas:

. eyewitness memory (including cross-race bias, administration of lineups/photo arrays)
. racial bias in jury decision-making
. jury selection (race and peremptory challenge use; the effects of jury composition on deliberations and verdict tendencies)
. discrimination (employment and otherwise)
