MYRNA CASAS is considered the first lady of Puerto Rican theater. Casas received a Bachelor's Degree in Drama from Vassar College, an MFA in Acting from Boston University, and earned a doctorate in Theatre Education with a thesis on Puerto Rican Theatre in the 18th Century. Her published plays include Broken Glass in Time, Eugenia Victoria Herrera, Fools Alone, The Trap, San Juan Impromptu, The Great Eucharistic Circus, and Voices.

LATINO FILM FESTIVAL

Our first film in this series will be the Cuban film BALSEROS. In the summer of 1994, a team of public television reporters filmed and interviewed seven Cubans, and their families, beginning a few days before their risky venture of setting out to sea in homemade rafts to reach the coast of the United States.

LATINO FILM FESTIVAL

O Prisionerio da Grade De Ferro (The Prisoner of the Iron Bars) documents the Brazilian carcerary system seen from the inside. One year before the deactivation of the Carandiru Jailhouse in Sao Paulo, inmates learn how to use video cameras and document everyday life in the biggest prison of Latin America.
