As
if the Future Mattered
Translating Social and
Economic Theory into Human Behavior
Edited by Neva
R. Goodwin
This volume is part of the series
Evolving Values for a Capitalist
World
This collection
of twelve previously unpublished essays explores what
can be done, through changes in institutional arrangements
and/or fashions of thought and perception, to encourage
the public and private sectors to translate their concern
for the future into actions that will ensure the survival
and well-being of the human species. The authors range
from the well-known business analyst, Michael E. Porter,
and former President of the World Bank, Robert McNamara;
to Zbigniew Bochniarz, a leading architect of "green
plans" for the countries of East Central Europe since
the fall of the Berlin Wall; and Alisa Gravitz, president
of Co-op America, an organization that assists U.S.
businesses to adopt socially responsible rules and behaviors.
Other contributors are Neva R. Goodwin, Fred Block.
George M. Newcombe, David Seckler, David Dapice, Robert
L. Paarlberg, and Franklin Tugwell.
