GDAE's Globalization and Sustainable Development Program is actively involved in analyzing the ongoing World Trade Organization negotiations as part of its research on trade and sustainable development.  The goal is to promote trade rules that ensure environmental sustainability while leaving developing countries the "policy space" to stimulate dynamic development. Framework analysis is provided in the edited book by Kevin P. Gallagher, Putting Development First: The Importance of Policy Space in the WTO and IFIs, (Zed Books, 2005). Research areas include: Doha Projections Project, Policy Space for Development, and Toward a New Consensus on Globalization and Development.

GDAE researchers have presented their work in briefings for negotiators and at the WTO Public Forums.
