The Amazing and The Immutable:
Photography from the Collections of Robert Drapkin and Martin Margulies
September 9 – November 21, 2004
Tisch Gallery
This visually provocative exhibition, drawn from two distinguished collections in Florida, combines and contrasts
late 19th-century vintage photographs and late-20th century photo-based contemporary art. The unconventional pairings
of images from different centuries promote "visual thinking" by prompting viewers to think about the
meanings of the unusual groupings. Every major photographic printing process is represented in the exhibition of
106 works, making The Amazing and The Immutable an amazing resource for learning about the evolution of
the photographic medium and the crises it has faced since its invention in 1839.
