Ph.D. Program Information

Concentration in Cognitive Development

The Ph.D. concentration in Cognitive Development prepares students for careers in higher education, research, and applied settings for which cognitive development training is appropriate background.

The course requirements for the Ph.D. with a concentration in Cognitive Development are as follows:

  1. CD 151 Advanced Intellectual Development
  2. Two other courses in Cognitive Development (see list below)
  3. Two other courses in Developmental Psychology outside the field of cognitive development (physiological, social, biological, personal, etc.)
  4. CD 140 Statistics
  5. CD 142 Problems of Research: Methods and Design
  6. CD 144 Qualitative and Ethnographic Methods
  7. CD 243 Applied Multivariate Data Analysis (or equivalent)
  8. CD 285 Advanced Research Methods in Applied Developmental Science (or equivalent)
  9. Two Advanced Seminars in Cognitive Development
    (e.g. CD 251 Seminar in Intellectual Development, CD 253 Advanced Seminar in Piagetian Psychology, PY 243 Structure and Process in Cognitive Theory)
  10. Four or more Concentration Electives
  11. Two Open Electives
  12. Internship
