About The Department

The Department has several degree programs that have a national reputation for excellence. It has a highly regarded doctoral program in Applied Child Development, three masters programs that offer options for carrying out a capstone internship, thesis, or programs in both early childhood and elementary teacher education. In addition, it has a vibrant undergraduate child development major.

The Department's laboratory school as well as its affiliations with the Tufts Educational Day Care Center and with local hospitals and programs for children and youth offer students and faculty a rich context for research, for developing professional skills, and for learning through working in community settings.

Since its beginnings, Eliot-Pearson has made diversity a central focus in both its teaching and scholarship. This focus expresses the Department's mission, which is to contribute to a more just, caring, and inclusive society.
