| Master of Arts in Teaching - Newton Teacher Residency (NTR)

The Tufts Department of Education and the Newton Teacher
Residency (NTR) program collaborate in a joint M.A.T. program
that allows participants to student teach as an apprentice at
Newton North or Newton South High School in Newton,
Massachusetts, for an entire school year. This collaboration
makes it possible for NTR candidates to earn a Master of Arts in
Teaching from Tufts University after completing their practicum
with NTR and the required course credits at the Tufts Department
of Education.
There are two stages to the application process: first, the
candidate must apply to the Newton Teacher Residency, and
second, to Tufts University. Candidates who are admitted into
both programs receive graduate credit at Tufts University for
their work in the Newton Teacher Residency, and are eligible to
apply for Massachusetts initial teacher licensure in grades
8-12. Candidates complete additional coursework for their M.A.T.
at Tufts during two summers or during an additional year at
Tufts.
