Master of Arts in Teaching - Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School (AMSACS)
Tufts University Department of Education and the Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School (AMSACS) in Marlborough, Massachusetts, are offering a program to prepare mathematics and science teachers. This program includes a year-long residency model of practice teaching at the Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School through the AMSACS Math and Science Teacher Residency Collaboration (MSTRC). The AMSACS MSTRC, designed with financial support from a private donor, provides a residency model of pre-professional training under the supervision of mentor teachers chosen for their experience and excellence in classroom teaching and curriculum development. The program also includes the option for qualified candidates to pursue their Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) at Tufts University. Credits earned during the residency year will count as full credits for the clinical portion of the Tufts M.A.T. program. In addition to the cost of Tufts tuition, new teacher interns will be paid a stipend.
Candidates must apply simultaneously to the AMSACS MSTRC and Tufts Graduate School of Arts and Sciences M.A.T. program for middle and high school licensure. Candidates admitted to both programs are required to complete 10-12 credits. Four of these credits are school site, pre-professional practice credits which will be completed at the AMSACS. Six to eight academic course credits will be completed as part of the Tufts M.A.T. program. Upon completion of all required credits, the M.A.T. degree will be awarded. Candidates are expected to take four to five semesters to complete their academic work. They will have an academic advisor at Tufts University as well as an on-site mentor at AMSACS.
