Master of Arts in Museum Education
Public education is at the heart of museum practice. The Master of Arts in Museum Education program is designed for those interested in pursuing careers in museum teaching and program development for audiences of all ages and backgrounds in art, history, science, and children's museums. The program requires eleven courses, described below.

A central component of the M.A. in Museum Education is the field-based internship. The internship provides students with an opportunity to gain experience in a museum setting as preparation for employment as a museum teacher, public program coordinator, community outreach manager, education director and other education related positions. Throughout the internship experience, students are expected to apply their understandings of theory and research in education and museum studies to the practice of museum education. Internships may take place in an art or historical museum, living history museum, children's museum, discovery museum, or in a museum of science. For instance, in the greater Boston area, students have interned at the Museum of Science, Boston Children's Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Historic New England, DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, Danforth Museum of Art, The Worcester Art Museum and Strawbery Banke Museum.

Graduate Certificate Program
The Office of Graduate and Professional Studies at Tufts University offers a graduate level certificate program in Museum Studies. This program consists of four courses and an internship. Although this program does not lead to a master's degree, courses taken as a certificate student can be applied to the master's program in Museum Education if the student is admitted into the Tufts M.A. Museum Education program. For more information about the certificate program, please visit the website at http://ase.tufts.edu/museumStudies or contact the Program Administrator at the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies.
