JUMBOS EARN 11th NCAA BERTH AS TOP SEED IN NEW
ENGLAND REGIONAL AT ENDICOTT
MEDFORD --
The Tufts University softball team, NESCAC champions for the sixth
time this spring, earned their 11th berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Coach Cheryl Milligan's team is the top seed in the New England
Regional to be hosted by Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts Thursday through Sunday
this week (May 7-10).
The Jumbos (38-1) will play #8 seed Husson College (26-14) in the
first round on Thursday at 10:00 am. Tufts has an 18-20 record in the
NCAA Tournament overall. The program earned seven straight NCAA
berths from 1997-2003. After failing to qualify in 2004 and 2005,
the Jumbos have earned four consecutive berths from 2006-09. Tufts
is ranked fifth in the National Fastpitch Coaches
Association poll.
Tufts won 35 games in a row to
start the 2009 season before losing to Brandeis in the regular-season
finale. The Jumbos won their fifth straight NESCAC East Division
pennant in the process. They hosted and rolled through the conference tournament
over the weekend, defeating Wesleyan University 8-2 to win the
crown.
Husson is the North Atlantic Conference Champion.
