GAMAL, NOLET EARN ALL-NESCAC FIRST TEAM HONORS IN WOMEN'S SOCCER AGAIN

MEDFORD -- For the second straight year, senior midfielder Fanna Gamal (Albany, CA) and junior defender Sarah Nolet (Los Altos, CA) of the Tufts University women's soccer team each earned first team honors when the 2009 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Conference selections were announced today.

Gamal, the center midfield position, is one of the smartest and most composed players in the league. She is an excellent playmaker and rarely loses possession of the ball. At the center mid position she is a phenomenal play maker and rarely loses possession of the ball. She finished 2009 with a goal and two assists, with the score coming in the conference tournament first round against Trinity to give Tufts a 1-0 lead. A complete player, Gamal is a true leader by example and a great role model for the younger players on the team.

An outstanding athlete who has played soccer, basketball and track & field at Tufts, Nolet could probably play anywhere on the field for Coach Martha Whiting's team. Skillful, tough and a true competitor, she is one of the best defenders in the NESCAC. Also an offensive weapon on corners with her 6-foot height, Nolet scored goals in NESCAC regular season games against Middlebury and Connecticut College, and against Williams in the conference tournament semi-finals.

The Jumbos joined conference champion Williams College as the only two teams in the league with two players returning to the All-Conference first team for the second straight season.

Tufts earned the fourth seed in the NESCAC Championship Tournament with a 4-4-1 regular-season record in the league. They advanced to the conference semi-finals with a 2-1 victory against Trinity in the first round. The Jumbos' season ended with a 4-2 loss to Williams in the semi-finals. Tufts was 8-7-1 overall.
