Visual Resources Center
The Visual Resources Center (VRC) of the Art & Art History
Department is located on the 2nd floor of 11 Talbot Avenue.
The mission of the VRC is to support the pedagogical needs of the
Department of Art and Art History faculty, students and staff.
Services provided include the development, collection and management
of media relating to coursework and research in the history of art
and architecture, including
digital images,
35mm slides, and special collections (lantern slides, photographs,
postcards, prints and scroll facsimiles). Our goal is to provide
these visual resources with high quality and accessibility. We also
endeavor to provide helpful instructional service to the Department
faculty, students and staff, in a user-friendly environment.
The VRC strives to promote communication and collaboration between
other Tufts resources as best serves the Department of Art and Art
History as well as the greater Tufts community.
The Visual Resources Collection
The Visual Resources Collection of the Art & Art History Department is located
on the 2nd floor of 11 Talbot Avenue. The Visual Resources Collection is open to
the Tufts community and contains over 250,000 35mm slides, 4,000 photographs and
some Japanese scroll facsimiles covering all periods and aspects of Art and
Architectural History.
The Visual Resources Collection also maintains a collection of digital images
which can be accessed through the Department's image study website,
Artifact.
There are currently thousands of images available in a format suitable for
teaching and studying digitally. Tufts University's Tisch Library subscribes to
ArtStor, a website with millions of images available for teaching and study.
When off campus, ArtStor and Artifact can only be accessed through the
Tisch Library website with a Tufts University ID login.
The Visual Resources Collection is open by appointment. Please contact
Christine Cavalier or call
