Africa in the New World
An interdisciplinary studies program affiliated with the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies.

African Student Organization (ASO)
The African Social Organization promotes knowledge about, and appreciation for the diversity of the African culture. Working in tandem with other Tufts organizations, ASO encourages all members of the community to participate in exploring what the African continent has to offer. Members of ASO participate in Intercultural Week, sponsor an Africa Week, and host several events that celebrate African culture.

Bias Education and Awareness Team (BEAT)
BEAT aims to create a climate of tolerance on campus by promoting advocacy on issues of diversity. We work with residential staffs to plan events in dorms and act as a resource for students affected by acts of bias.

Black Graduate Student Association (BGSA)
The BGSA is designed is a resource for students of African descent in graduate school at Tufts. This organization is dedicated to assisting graduate students with successfully negotiating their graduate program.

Black Out
A student led “step” dance group that regularly performs at Tufts events.

Black Women's Collective (BWC)
The BWC was established by the Africana Center as a weekly forum for students to discuss and share information about issues that affect the lives of black women. Each year the Director of the Africana Center selects a facilitator(s) for this group - the Director's decision is based on the current needs of the group and the Center's resources.

Black Men's Group (BMG)
The Black Men's Group was established by the Africana Center as a weekly forum for students to discuss and share information about issues that affect the lives of black men. Each year the Director of the Africana Center selects a facilitator(s) for this group - the Director's decision is based on the current needs of the group and the center's resources.

Caribbean Club
The Caribbean Club helps to foster an understanding and appreciation of the diverse cultures of the region through an exploration of the ethnic and cultural differences and similarities of Caribbean nations. The Club is open to all who are interested in learning more about the diverse aspects of Caribbean life, including those who wish to celebrate their West Indian heritage.

Emerging Black Leaders (EBL)
An organization committed to initiating strong intellectual dialogue regarding issues pertinent to the African Diaspora. We are dedicated to taking an active role in inspiring positive change in the Black community. As such, we regularly host symposia that highlight the historic struggles and accomplishments of our community members. We critically analyze how to sustain these achievements, and continue building a bold new future. We invite alliances with groups that share these views.

Essence
Essence, an all female acapella group, promotes an appreciation for and development of music of African descent. As a group, Essence is resource for the Black community and performs at various events throughout the year.

Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students
In conjunction with the Tufts Pre-Medical Society, this organization assists students on their way to medical, dentistry, veterinarian and other health-related schools. Peer mentorship programs, speakers, trips to medical schools, as well as participating in local and national AMSA events and generally informing pre-med and non-premed students of the role a future medical career, are the some of the services this organization provides.

MOST (Multiracial Organization of Students at Tufts)
The Multiracial Organization of Students at Tufts (MOST) is a student-run organization with the purpose of providing a forum for discussion about multiracial/multicultural and related issues. There are many groups on campus that focus on one culture and provide support for people who identify with that culture and to educate the rest of the community about it, but MOST is the only organization that deals with the issues of being part of more than one culture. Being multiracial or multicultural can be very confusing and difficult, so MOST provides a community of support and a forum for discussion about the issues that face multiracial students. With a wide network of members coming from all kinds of backgrounds, MOST proudly welcomes all people to come together to educate the campus and bridges barriers between races and cultures. MOST hosts exciting events, discussions, and parties.

National Society of Black Engineers (NESBE)
The Tufts chapter of NSBE emulates the national organization in its quest to provide a supportive environment for black students for the purpose of establishing a basis for future success as scientists and engineers. NESBE strives to increase the number of minority students studying engineering and promote an awareness of the opportunities for blacks in the engineering profession. NESBE also serves addresses issues that are pertinent to the careers of black engineers.

National Student Partnerships (NSP)
The nation's only year-round, student-led volunteer service organization that links people in need with the resources and opportunities necessary to become self-sufficient.

Onyx
Onyx is Tufts' Black literary magazine. It serves as a medium for creative statement of students at Tufts. Onyx strives to be a mirror that reflects the experiences of people from the African Diaspora through poetry, short stories, and artwork.

Pan-African Alliance
The umbrella organization of the university’s cultural groups that advocate for the concerns of students of color. The purpose of the Pan-African Alliance is to promote solidarity and awareness among members of the Black community and teach others about the Black experience. The Alliance provides social, educational, cultural and recreational activities to help enhance the quality of student life at Tufts. The Pan-African Alliance serves as a voice by which the concerns of Black students can be articulated to the university as a whole. Most importantly, the Alliance provides for a cultural and spiritual link to Africa.

S-Factor
Tufts' all-male a capella group dedicated to the performance of Hip-Hop, R&B, Gospel, and other genres influenced by the song traditions of the African Diaspora.

Spirit of Color Performing Arts Troupe
The purpose of the Spirit of Color (SOC) Performing Arts Troupe is not only to promote artistic statement of "students of color," but also to help make the entire Tufts community, including Spirit of Color members, more aware of the rich and various historical cultures that constitute the Tufts University population. SOC strives to achieve this through singing, dancing, and acting. The goal is to break down stereotypes by working together as a performing arts troupe, in which people of different ethnicities and backgrounds come to know each other beyond representatives of cultures and races, but as individuals.

Students at Tufts Acting for Immigrant Rights (STAIR)
The STAIR Coalition, representing a wide spectrum of perspectives, understands that true immigration reform requires a reevaluation of labor relations and US economic and foreign policy while affirming the immigrant's civil rights to freedom from discrimination due to immigration status or national/ethnic origin.

The Black Student Board (BSB)
The BSB serves to link all student organizations that are actively concerned with promoting ideas relevant to the African Diaspora. A representative from each group is required to sit as a member of the Board. The BSB allows for effective communication between student organizations and the Director of the Africana Center.

The Jonathan M. Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service
A national leader in preparing students to become engaged public citizens and community leaders who will help build a more equitable world.

Tufts Community Union Senate
The TCU Senate is an elected body consisting of 35 undergraduate students. 28 senators are elected from each of the four classes, four community representatives are elected from cultural organizations across campus, and three students are appointed to the Board of Trustees by the Senate. The Senate is charged with representing undergraduate interests to the administration, faculty, and all other constituent groups at Tufts. The Senate is given the fiduciary responsibility of allocating the $1.3 million aggregated from the student activities fee to all student organizations on campus.

Queer Students of Color and Allies
A discussion group focused on the intersections of racial, cultural, sexual, and gender identity. Students of color and all allies, regardless of identity, are welcome.
