The Africana Center works to implement programs designed to
encourage and support the intellectual and individual growth and
awareness of all Tufts Undergraduates. These programs include
lectures, workshops, concerts and films, as well as a range of
additional activities and programming that reflect and celebrate the
intellectual and cultural tradition of Black people in the Diaspora.
The Center also sponsors programs that promote an understanding of
and respect for diversity, multiculturalism and equity issues,
including:
- The Black Women’s Collective and
Black Men’s Group which
meet weekly to discuss issues surrounding sexual and cultural
identity, racial identity, and the formation and maintenance of
healthy relationships.
- A Peer Advisor and Orientation program in which upper-class
students are assigned to work with first-year students
throughout the academic year.
- The Cape Cod Orientation Retreat for first year students
that serves as a forum to address their questions and concerns
regarding life on Tufts’ campus for students of African descent.
- The Africana Center, in collaboration with Career Services
programs and events, has developed the
Ready to Go
Toolkit. This program is designed to provide you with
opportunities to practice interview and job search techniques
that are essential to your future career success.
